Dental repair and treatment

Dental repair and treatment save teeth from extraction

Dental repair and treatment are treatments that extend the life of an individual tooth. After the examination and determination of the diagnosis, we set the therapy plan and start the rehabilitation.

When dental repair and treatment are mentioned, it means that we do fillings and endodontic treatments of the root canals of the teeth. The primary task of the dentist is to preserve the tooth, so we always try to save the tooth first. This is exactly what we achieve with fillings and dental treatment.

Fill - Tooth Repair

The filling is made to remove caries. Only on healthy tooth tissue, we can put a filling.

There are several types of fillings:

  • composite (white)
  • glasionomers
  • amalgam
  • ceramic (Inlay, Onlay, Overlay)

Composite and amalgam are made in the clinic and ceramic in the laboratory, based on digital prints.

Composite fillings

Today's fillings are mostly composite, aesthetic. Because of their white color, we still call them white fillings. They stick to the teeth and polymerize with a special light. They belong to the category of aesthetic fillings because they mimic the color of the teeth and can be modeled into the desired shape of a natural tooth.

Glasionomers are also white dental fillings. They are used for hard-to-reach places, where we cannot provide perfect conditions (without saliva).

We use them in the so-called "sandwich methods" when we first put a glasionomer and then a composite.

Amalgam fillings

Black, amalgam fillings are also called gray or silver fillings. They are no longer used in the world because they contain toxic mercury. The European Union Directive prohibits amalgam fillings for:

  • for children up to 15 years
  • pregnant women
  • breastfeeding

If the dentist, based on the special health needs of the patient, deems it necessary to perform tooth repair with an amalgam filling, then it can be applied. Dental amalgam may only be used in the form of pre-dosed capsules.

Dental treatment

If the caries is deep and has already affected the nerve of the tooth, we need to approach dental treatment. This means that we remove the nerve, and then we completely clean the area where the nerve was and hermetically close the canals. We can do this in two ways:

  1. Manually - with needles
  2. Machine treatment – with the device Reciproc

Machine treatment

Machine treatment of teeth with the Reciproc device can clean and fill the tooth root much better.

What after dental treatment?

After treatment, the tooth should be repaired (depending on the situation):

  • with filling and pin
  • with the crown (if we are missing a large part of the teeth)

The pins can be ready-made or individual. They are cemented to the root of the tooth.

What is done when a patient comes in with a treated tooth that hurts?

  1. Revision of the old filling

In that case, we approach the audit. This means that we will replace the old charge with a new one if we estimate that it can be performed. After revision and recharging, we wait 6 months. At the control examination, we create an X-ray control image. If we notice the process of tooth healing, we take care of the tooth with a permanent filling or crown.

  1. Tooth extraction

If the tooth fails to heal, it is necessary to extract it because every process on a diseased tooth is a hotbed of infection. In any case, a better option for the patient's health is to extract such a tooth and replace it:

  • with dental implants
  • with a bridge (three-member)

Repair and treatment of teeth with healthy materials and state-of-the-art technology

Today, tooth repair can be performed extremely quickly in a very safe way using composite materials, which are safer, healthier, but also aesthetically superior to amalgam because they faithfully mimic the color and appearance of teeth. Amalgam fillings can only be bonded mechanically. In order not to fall out, the teeth are ground in a special way and a lot of the healthy part is removed, not just the part attacked by caries.

Today, modern machine endodontics in many cases can cure a tooth in one visit.
